But my journey into the world of breastfeeding wasn't always smooth sailing. When I had my first child, I was completely unprepared for the challenges that breastfeeding would bring. I lacked the support and knowledge needed to navigate this new experience, and as a result, I had to stop breastfeeding earlier than I had hoped. Determined to do better with my second child, I embarked on a mission to educate myself. I reached out to other moms who had successfully breastfed, scoured the internet for tips and advice, and most importantly, I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't give up. And it paid off. I was able to breastfeed my daughter for over two years, surpassing my previous experience. But I didn't want to stop there. Along my journey, I realized that I had gained valuable knowledge and insights that could benefit other moms like me. I felt a deep desire to create a community that would inspire and support breastfeeding mamas, using my own personal and authentic story. And that's how "The Lactating Mama" was born. Now in addition to being a passionate breastfeeding influencer, I am also an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). This certification forms the foundation of the TLM brand, allowing me to provide evidence-based consultations and support to fellow breastfeeding mamas. My ultimate goal is to offer “Simple & Sweet” breastfeeding education and support that mamas understand and can apply to their individual Breastfeeding experiences. As a black lactation consultant, it is also important for me to showcase the experiences of other black women and their babies breastfeeding, in hopes of bridging the gap and addressing disparities and exclusion in lactation.
